These are my best 5 tips for a work-life balance!

I've spent the better part of 10 years finding a work-balance, so that you don't have too!

Work-life balance is hard, especially when you’re juggling a full-time job and all the other stuff life throws your way.

But over the last 10 years, I’ve figured out 5 key things that help me feel less like I’m just working to live—and more like I’m living my life, even with a 9-to-5.

Here’s the 5 things that have worked for me:

  1. Pick a Non-Negotiable Habit

Make time for something every day that’s just for you. For me, it’s the gym. Even if I can’t go every single day, I aim for 4-5 times a week. After a year, that’s over 200 gym sessions! Whether it’s reading 10 pages of a book each day or practicing a language on Duolingo, small daily actions add up.

  1. Wake Up 30 Minutes Earlier

It sounds painful, but getting up 30 minutes before you normally would gives you time to actually wake up. If you're always feeling rushed to get to work, this sets the tone for the rest of your day. Get up 30 mins earlier; have a coffee, put some laundry on or tidy up a bit. It helps start your day feeling grounded instead of rushed.

  1. Set a Bedtime & Stick to It

Good sleep hygiene is non-negotiable. This has been an actual lifesaver. I’m not perfect, but I aim to be in bed by 8:30 PM. Whatever time you can consistently go to bed and wake up - pick that time for you. If I sleep well, I’m way more productive the next day.

  1. Dedicate Time to Personal Projects

Having a creative outlet makes a huge difference. I’ve started dedicating 30 minutes a day to creating on Canva—whether it’s journaling, brainstorming blog ideas, or working on a short story. It’s not about being perfect, just showing up.

  1. Plan “Me-Time” Every Week

Whether it’s going for a solo coffee date, taking a long walk in the park, or just binge-watching a series, make sure you carve out me-time every week. These moments help you recharge so you don’t burn out.

Work will always be there, but your personal life is too short to put on the back burner.

Incorporating these habits into your day can help you feel more balanced and less like you’re just running on autopilot.
